On Exhibition!

I joined the McLean Art Society (MAS) in the fall and one New Year resolution was to be more active at the community level. So, I joined our monthly zoom calls and participated in all opportunities. I installed artwork at the Springhill Recreation Center where MAS has an on-going exhibition on the lower level. Well, to my surprise the 2 pieces I hung sold and the buyer is commissioning another piece! Here are the 2 that sold at Springhill. They are 16 x 20, acrylic on wood panel. 

In other huge news associated with MAS, I was selected to be apart of the juried exhibition "The Show Must Go On." A juried exhibition is where one person (or a few) review all of the submitted artwork (in this case, there were 57) and select their favorites based on composition, theme, balance, and what rings true to them. The work below titled "Be the Light" was one of 20 selected. And while, I have participated in a handful of exhibitions, this is the first time I have been selected by a juror. I'm taking many moments to pause and celebrate! It is on display at the McLean Community Center from March 2 - 13th, 2021. The exhibition is just outside of the McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) in the Atrium. All works are by MAS members and are for sale. "Be the Light" is 24 x 24 inches, acrylic and oil on gallery wrapped canvas. 

"Be the Light" took on many forms as I worked on it what seemed like nearly all day. I truly let myself explore through color and texture and finally arrived at the final piece when it felt complete (or I was exhausted!). I used a palette knife to add lots of texture to create upward and horizontal movements. For me, it mimics light shining up and out. The first 2 phases of the painting are show below and still give me inspiration! Thank goodness I took pictures of the process. ❤️

During March, I'll be working on 2 commissions and enjoying all things spring! Enjoy the sunshine and see you soon!
