And more, from a personal side...
My grandmother was always creating - knitting, crocheting, painting, sewing and this influence was near me from an early age. Little did I know, she was planting a seed. While I was at UGA, she bought me a Bob Ross art set that opened the door to my art career. I explored oils for the first time and became fascinated with it's unforgiving nature. I graduated with a B.A. in Marketing (Go Dawgs!), lived in Norway, and landed my first professional job. Years into it, curiosity of those oil paints called once again. I began painting more seriously, moved into a loft where it became part bedroom and part studio. I painted feverishly, hung completed works on my tall wall and sold my first 5 paintings. I was even have enough during this time to seek out a solo exhibition at a local coffee shop.
Fast forward a few years and I found myself as a Diplomat’s wife living in Costa Rica, excited about this new adventure and happy to explore a new culture and land. I volunteered with FIMRC and worked at the U.S. Embassy. We were blessed with our first child. I painted a painting for him that he still has in his room today! We moved to Nicaragua where again, I volunteered - this time with Fabretto, and also worked at the U.S. Embassy. And, we were blessed again with a second child. After 4 years in Central America, we were in the U.S. and after interviewing for jobs and feeling unvalidated, a fire - a raging fire - burned in my belly. I asked myself "What can I do?" I said, "I can paint." So, I propped up my easel and began to paint with so much passion that I have yet to look back. Within a month, I sold a painting and had my first commission.
From Costa Rica to Nicaragua to the U.S. to Iceland and to the U.S. again, I’ve painted and continue to be curious while allowing one of my best friends - art - guide me through tough times, best times, and most importantly - always understanding and giving, and waiting for me patiently. We transform, take on new inspiration wherever we are.
